High Tide in Spennymoor
Spennymoor is known for its Pubs and takeaways, but there’s another side of it that many are unaware of. Bands that are from the town and doing exceptionally well. Bands such as high tide.
High tide is a four man/women group where Christopher Stones is lead singer, Jamie Mcmanners is lead guitar, Daniel Blakemore is bass and Alice Gent is drums. Alice agreed to give an interview explaining just what it is like to be in a band and where her favourite place to gig in Spennymoor is.
‘The best part about playing in a band is playing music from your idols like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and playing with your mates and having a laugh on with them.’

‘My favourite part about being in the band is playing with friends that are all passionate about music. We get to play plenty of gigs and we are out gigging nearly every weekend which is a bonus for us.’
The band ranges from 21 to 25 year olds. High Tide is a unique band where the drummer is a girl, majority of bands have male drummers. This is one of the many reasons High Tide stands out as a lot of people are surprised at how talented Alice is and that she is in a group with herself and males.
They have been together for 6 years however it is only in the last 2 years the leader singer ‘Stonsey’ replaced their old one so that the band was able to do more of a range of songs such as Oasis, The Clash and The Beatles.
‘My favourite place to gig is the Weardale in Spennymoor. We always get a great turn out and everyone that comes have an amazing time because everyone gets involve and the atmosphere is amazing.’
With the band getting a name for themselves and more people from the area getting to know their songs I asked Alice about her thoughts about the support she receives; ‘The support we get from Spennymoor is amazing. We always get a good following and there’s always that sense of community when we perform in Spennymoor.’
I asked Alice why she was in the band and she said ‘I love to gig. You very rarely have a bad gig but even if you do the good ones always outweigh the bad ones. I love the feeling when I’m performing.’
The up and coming events for high tide are in Bishop, Barnard Castle, Spennymoor, Durham and Stockton-upon-tees.
High Tide is something that Spennymoor are proud to say they come from here. Majority of the gigs that High Tide perform are free to enter and are incredibly atmospheric, From the moment they start to the ending of their set, there are people dancing on the dance floor and requesting for more songs to be played. High Tide are currently building their reputation, and I can honestly say as a community, Spennymoor will be behind them to support them all the way.
